2026 #39 – The Boys Who Would be Cubs: A Year in the Heart of Baseball’s Minor Leagues

by Joseph Bosco

Bosco follows the Peoria Chiefs in the 1989 season of an “A” minor league club. I picked it up as I was not allowed to read it as a teen (a lot of swear words and other adult situations my Mother did not want me to read). This follows the minor league team from Spring Training through the next season’s Spring Training.

Interesting stories and information made hard to read by a badly edited book. Sentences run on and on. Players, their wives and girlfriends, and various Cubs staff will appear, be introduced, disappear for 50 pages and then be reintroduced with only a first name or a nickname. Except, a couple of people who get reintroduced every time with a full recounting of their title.
