by Oliver Harris
Elliott Kane, MI6 operative, has spent 15 years in the murk of overseas work. Doing things the British government needs done, that will never be reported by the BBC. But when Joanna Lake, fellow operative and the women Elliott hopes to spend his retirement with, contacts him from Kazakhstan. She sends him an excellent AI video of him from the future…. Elliott escapes to find her in the snowbound country, where British, US, China, Russia, and many companies are all trying to gain soft control of the country. Can he find Joanna, figure out the video, and stay out of prison?
A very good introductory novel. Elliott Kane is a complex character who feels somewhat realistic. A lot of twists and turns and is well written.
