by B.J. Hollars
This book is a primer in the weird (or Fortean). Nine stories (Beast of Bray Road, Oscar the Turtle, Mothman, Joe Simonton’s Space Pancakes, Minot AFB 1968, Val Johnson, Hodag, Project ELF, and The Kensington Runestone) in three sections (cryptozoology, UFOs, Weird). I was aware of all these stories and so was Professor Hollars. He retells the stories, traveling to the locations, and meeting up with eyewitnesses or their families.
This book reminds of the “Mysteries of the Unexplained” books that I would buy at the Book Fair as a kid. Fun stories about the unknown. Hollar does a good job of honestly looking at each case and leaving it up to the reader decide. Hollar is a good writer which makes it above average introduction.
