By Brian D. McLaren
Does the present state of the world, keep you up at night? Do you look at the future and wonder if the possible outcomes can be avoided? Brian McLaren talks about his concerns, 4 ways he can see the world going, and how he deals with stress and concerns and not just give up on everything.
McLaren is someone who I generally agree with in the aggregate, but I get really annoyed by his attitude. I understand that he is a smart guy who has deconstructed from a much more theologically conservative tradition. He talks about grace, but can be very dismissive of those he disagrees with. And here, he kind of unmoors himself from traditional Christian hope, and wanders into a very secular (tinged with various other religions) space. So, like a lot of McLaren, I find myself agreeing with a lot of the big ideas, while grounding it somewhere else.
