2026 #21 – A Parade of Horribles (Dungeon Crawler Carl #8)

By Matt Dinniman

It’s a race! Floor 10 is pretty simple: get to the finish line and don’t be last. But… the vehicles are strange (both mechanical and animal), the winners get more and better upgrades. Oh, and there are more and more glitches and diatribes as the Crawl continues. And if they survive Floor 10, Floor 11 is a Parade of Horribles! But Carl has a plan to disrupt everything – if he survives the floor.

Listen, Carl and Princess Donut are a fun combo. The writing gets better with each book – Dinniman is able to balance silly, sometimes juvenile humor and actual emotional depth. However, for me the inclusion of the second floor was frustrating (I still maintain these books work best as a floor per book; because each floor has its own theme and pacing). And some of the lit-rpg descriptions are amusing, and some are very self-indulgent. Way too self-indulgent. Overall, another solid entry. I am sorry that I let the premise keep me from starting the series earlier.
