By Bruce M. Metzger
The 2nd edition of Metzger’s book explaining the technical process of how the New Testament was written (the mechanics of materials, languages, copying, etc.). With an explanation and commentary on the various manuscripts were found, contain, and the background. This was the standard book for discussing transmission theory when I was an undergrad (albeit in the updated 3rd edition).
This was an impulse buy at a used bookstore. I recognized the jacket cover from multiple of my professors offices, and just bought it. I had heard extensive quotes from Metzger, but he was considered “too liberal” on some subjects; but was the subject matter expert on transmission theory. So we read and heard excerpts of from him.
I had never read it in full, I now have. Some of the stories were very familiar, but the grade may have been for the nostalgia factor.
