2026 #17 – The Vision of Ephesians: The Task of the Church and the Glory of God

By N.T. Wright

For Tom Wright Ephesians is written by Paul and was written to emphasize the fact that the church is supposed to be the “small working model of new creation. Because Christians are not being saved from the world, instead the new heavens and the new earth will be coming down.

A good introduction with thoughtful ideas about Ephesians. I know that the current thought is that Ephesians is not “written by Paul”, Wright makes a good defense of his viewpoint. You can agree or not. I agree with his general points.

As an exvangelical (although I left a few years before the current tiktok crop) and Anglican I don’t have an issue with people having a variety of opinions on some issues. And Wright and I agree on the core of the Gospel and many side issues as well. But I find his inability to fully discuss several issues understandable and frustrating. He wants to handwave discussions about headship (which is highly contentious American issue). He wants to talk about the religious reasons that “Judeans” were seen as odd, while ignoring the social reasons like marriage. This is a general critique across several books and I am just noting it here.
