Sister Mary Helen is retirement age, but not quite ready to slow down yet. Arriving to teach history at a Women’s college in San Francisco. A minor earthquake leaves a body on the campus. Was this an accident, an “Act of God” or is something more sinister? A novena to St. Dismas is prayed, but is the police’s suspect the real murderer?
Written in the 1980’s, the story of an older nun who hides mystery novels in her prayer book cover, her colleagues, and the police detectives they befriend works as a “religious cozy mystery” type story – years before that became a category. A bit of dated language and mores, but a nice read.
