By Elmore Leonard
Harry Mitchell is unfaithful one time in more than 20 years of marriage. But when this factory owner is blackmailed because of this indiscretion, he decides to handle all of this himself. These blackmailers have chosen the wrong man to try their scheme on.
An early Leonard crime novel, it is good. Not his peak work, but you can see both the growth in his style from his first crime novel The Big Bounce and the things that will make his crime works stand out – the plotting, the twists and turns, and the snappy dialogue.
Now, I am very interested in watching John Frankenheimer’s adaptation that stars Roy Scheider and Ann Margaret.
