2025 #9 – Easter: The Season of the Resurrection of Jesus (Fullness of Time)

By Wesley Hill

The Fullness of Time series continues with a look at Easter and the Season of Easter. Easter is traditionally considered the holiest day on the church calendar. Rev. Hill starts by describing an Easter Vigil service he attended years ago in England. Like most books in the series, he then reviews the story of the season – the first Easter when Jesus was resurrected. He goes over the Gospel accounts and gives a combined account of the day.

From there he move onto the long history of Easter being a day for baptisms and the liturgy that the Church has developed for Easter Vigil and Day. He discusses the reason why Easter is a “moveable feast” and does a good job of discussing how it’s calculated. He then discusses why the church uses Acts as the focal point for the season. That the church has been commissioned to take the Good News of Jesus life, death, resurrection, and ascension out into a world that needs to hear it.

A good book and a good series. The series is not devotional or academic. It’s a good grounding on the parts of the church year.
