By Steven Barnes
After Qui-Gon’s death, Mace Windu receives a message from the recently deceased, asking him him to help the Outer Rim planet Metagos. We learn that Qui-Gon’s unorthodox views on the force had helped to balance Mace Windu’s very orthodox understanding and views.
Mace learns that a young Qui-Gon had been on the irradiated planet of Metagos. The sun had forced the inhabitants to live underground, with limited resources. He had helped the Sa’ad defend their land from unscrupulous clans. The Sa’ad use a form of dream weaving to live in balance with the plants and animals of the planet. Qui-Gon had promised to return if they ever needed his help.
Crime Lords have now taken over the planet, and the Sa’ad called for help (right before the events of the Phantom Menace)… Mace decides to craft a fake identity and help the Sa’ad free their planet….but will helping the Sa’ad force him to revisit his life and choices; and perhaps fall in love?
Some interesting ideas, but should have been a shorter, more focused book.
