By Stephen King
Jack Torrance has lost his teaching job, and his old friend Al helps him to get a job as the winter caretaker at the Overlook – a beautiful, old hotel in the middle of the Rockies in Colorado. Bringing his wife Wendy and son Danny they embark on a new job…
Only Danny is telepathic and had precognition; what the chef at the hotel calls “the Shining”. But the overlook has a colorful history. What will happen when as the winter progresses and the Torrance’s are isolated from any help?
A horror classic, which spawned a classic Kubrick movie. I had read this as a kid: my Great Aunt Verby had a den, and I loved going in there and reading. I read several books, often over many visits. This and Cujo were the two King books. But I was a little young to fully grasp everything. I was recently gifted “Doctor Sleep” and felt that I needed to reread this one…
Well worth it. Early King could not only write a killer beginning, have an intriguing premise, he also knew how to finish a book.
