2024 #60 – The Win Machine: The Road to Hell is Paved With Intervention

By Ryan McBeth

Imagine in the near future, a former military officer leads a small hedge fund with a secret… it’s quantum computer is years ahead of anyone else. And when it’s results show that a war is inevitable, what’s the company supposed to do? Make a fortune? Tell the government?

A short book, with some big questions, some action, and some things to think about. The main character of Mike Malloy seems like a bit of a stand in for McBeth (a youtuber on cybersecurity, who deployed to the desert, and who’s day job is working for a company that is using drones to assist in battlefield medicine). The rest of the characters are a bit thin. It’s a solid first novel, improving on the writing of his short story, Warlock.
