by Fredrik Backman
Lucas is perfectly happy being left alone. He works a remote job, has his favorite takeout places (his favorite being Pad Thai with peanuts). But what happens when he has to deal with other people? Specifically, the board of his apartment building approach him about trash that is being thrown away – incorrectly. He makes the mistake of thinking they are looking for a solution to the problem…when they are really looking for a culprit. Will he get his peace back? Or will he need to fake a coma?
This was a free Amazon read. Backman wrote “A Man Called Ove” about an angry, old man who starts to care (as he can) after a young family moves next door. This short has a similar feel. Perhaps, like his previous work, this is more than mildly amusing in its original Swedish language and context?
