This is the continuation of the Nihil storyline for the Middle Grades. Churro the Hutt, Ram, Tep Tep, Kildo, and others join together to fight the Nihil and to capture a Nameless. There are fun and high jinks along the way. But it also takes a tragic turn, and there are real losses contained in the story.
My youngest fell in love with the “Last Kids on Earth” series a few years ago. This book reminded me of those – a lot of adventure, a lot of kids outsmarting the bad guys, and then some genuine danger. And actual peril…
One of my complaints as a ten year old was that kids books and tv were pulling their punches. GI Joe and Cobra would fire a million rounds of ammo, missiles would explode by the dozens, and only vehicles or robots would be destroyed. Everyone survives. As I matured it just felt cheap. This has a good balance between being a fun adventure and having real consequences to what they are involved with.
