River Cartwright makes a catastrophic mistake during a training exercise, the kind that makes clips of the exercise required viewing for future classes. As an MI5 agent (who’s grandfather is a well connected MI5 legend) he is assigned to Slough House – where agents who are screwups go (when they can’t be cashiered) to hopefully get frustrated and quit. But what happens when these “Slow Horses” get caught up in a real case, where a young Muslim man is having his life threatened by British nationalist group. Will the Slow Horses be fast enough to save the day?
I wanted to read this series, becuase I have enjoyed all three seasons of the Apple TV series. Jackson Lamb, Standish, Louisa, Ho, Cartwright, and company are given room to breathe here. Having a relationship with their adapted counterparts, I didn’t mind the slow beginning – introducing the characters and most of their reasons for being in Slough House.
The TV series is a good adaptation, so I knew the broad strokes, but enjoyed living in the universe.
