Marda and Yana Ro are members of the Path of the Open Hand. The Mother send Marda on a mission to Planet X, while Yana is joining forces to take control of the Open Hand from the Mother. Scott moves the plot along without spelling everything out. Marda and Yana’s journeys are well written and believable.  And in the end, Phase 2 helps to explain the background of the Nihil from Phase I.
