2023 #57 – Star Wars: The High Republic: Cataclysm

By Lydia Kang

Eiram and E’ronoh have been in conflict for years. The Path of the Open Hand is slowly devolving into what will become the Nihil. The Jedi seem to be at the height of their power and unable to see the problems in front of them.

Cataclysm is part of the Phase II of The High Republic, and I think this is the best of the lot. The High Republic has had better writers than the old EU. The old EU had the advantage of the original characters and the movies. We already loved Luke, Leia, Han, Wedge, Chewie, the Droids, Lando… we knew what they looked like. We knew a bit about their character. But it has taken this many books for the various characters to have really come into their own.

My main complaint is that the Jedi don’t ever seem to regroup, look at the evidence, and then make a plan. Instead they seem to throw knights and padawans at problems.
