Bogwitch (Maggie, 48) makes a bet with her college age son – she’ll work on being more social if he does. So she tries a book club and also joining a local guild (mostly made up of college age students). Otter (Aiden, 50) is the guild leader who keeps things moving. Maggie is divorced, Aiden’s fiancé married his brother. Maggie thinks Otter is her son’s age. Aiden thinks Bogwitch is his mother’s age. Even though Maggie and Aiden bump into each other in their small town – they have no idea who the other is. Will their online friendship and attraction survive meeting IRL?
This is a You’ve Got Mail (or Little Shop Around the Corner) story for the modern age. It is a fun romp, with the normal beats of the above stories. Maggie and Aiden are relatively well drawn characters with backstories out of central casting. I read this with my wife.
