2023 #30 – Star Wars The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha

By George Mann

Eiram and E’ronoh are set to sign a peace treaty in the wake their heirs coming to an agreement, and have come to Jedha to sign the treaty. The Festival of Balance is about to begin, with pilgrims flooding the streets. The Path has become more influential on the planet, from stating almshouses to help the poor. And then, an explosion rocks the proceedings.

The Jedi have to deal with the aftermath of the explosion, while the Republic tries to bring calm to the warring planets. Joining with the Jedi are the Guardians of the Whills and they encounter a number of different of groups that have the Force as the center of the religion or philosophy. Is the Path responsible? Someone else? And all of the Jedi’s work will be complicated when a battle breaks out….

This is a script for an audio drama – so part of the length of the book is the format. There are many new characters introduced – the one I enjoyed the most was Keth. But that means we are now tracking new Eiram and E’ronoh soldiers and diplomats, along with many unnamed pilgrims and residents of Jedha. One thing we need more of – honest exploration of the other Force groups – what they believe, how they interact with each other, etc.
