Sergeant Inspector Felse and his son Dom are back – in a much tighter, better plotted book. Set about 3 years after the first one, Dom is now 16 and in love with the older Kitty Norris. But then she is accused of murder. But her best friend, who was disinherited from his father (the deceased) doesn’t believe she is guilty – and neither does Dom. Dom continues to look for the truth…but that may get him into trouble….
A hundred pages shorter and better plotted this is a good mystery novel (made into an Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode). Dom is 16, still young and a bit naïve but better written. This one reminded me of the better Cadfael stories.
