By Jim Butcher
In the aftermath of battle and loss, how does Harry Dresden deal with a more “down to earth” problem? And what if it really isn’t a vanilla case after all? This was an enjoyable novella showing Harry dealing with the loss and aftermath of Peace Talks/Battle Ground – and with a touch of PTSD. At 99 pages it fills us in on some of what post battle Chicago – including someone who fully buys the cover story….
It was nice to have a story that isn’t about Harry “leveling up” to deal with a more powerful threat. Instead he is dealing with equal parts human stupidity and supernatural entanglement. It also is very focused, so a large swath of the side characters are not present. I enjoyed it, pausing my other reading to quickly finish.
