Ceris Wenden decided to become the mother of a new star, volunteering when her village is chosen to send a young woman to birth it. The “star mother” does not survive, but is deeply honored for their sacrifice. Ceris though is not your typical woman of the time, and finds herself amongst gods, demigods, and godlings – giving birth to a new star and finding that not everything goes the way its supposed to….
Star Mother is a fantasy very concerned with its protagonist and her struggle. Her struggle in her village, her struggle to have the child, and her struggle in the aftermath. As a human among long lived “gods” and their kin, she knows little of their ways, history, and laws. And then she meets a mysterious entity, and her life spins out of control.
The book was interesting and well written. But it just didn’t fully grab me.
