Imagine an apologetics that is not a series of propositions and logical, abstract, theological constructions. Instead, a series of stories how God has worked and how God continues to work in the world. The idea is that we need of our faith to be humbler, to love others, and to admit that the church has not lived up to what we are called to be. This is done by looking at questions or criticisms of faith – current ones, not ones based on theological arguments from over the centuries. The traditional response is given, discussed. This is followed by the counter narrative – sometimes even looking at the range of the counter arguments; then they are discussed. Finally, a new narrative is proposed and discussed.
This is a refreshing take on apologetics. I don’t agree with all of his new narratives. But the idea that we should be humbler in our walk with God and others; and that we should remember that God is bigger than our imagination and our desire to be right.
