By Barry Eisler
I had Covid a couple of weeks ago, and while I was in recovering – tired and having a hard time focusing I read two books that were in my Kindle library, in there for other members of my family. One of them was The Chaos Kind, by a former CIA operative. The book reminded a lot of the Mack Bolan/Phoenix Force/Stony Man/Able Team series of books – hyper competent, cynical, damaged protagonists overcoming swarms of operators with stiff odds to defeat evil. I loved them when I was 13. In this case a conspiracy at the upper levels of government. The bad guys are really bad. The good guys are very gray.
This is decently written and by the numbers (a theme in both books I read in Covid), and is a part of a series. I don’t think that I am going to hunt down the rest.
