2022 #28 – Sea of Tranquility

by Emily St. John Mandel

An anomaly, a cast of quirky characters, spread out over a long period of time, and a pandemic. No, this is not a Station 11 sequel. It’s a different meditation born out of the last two years. Where Station 11’s pandemic acted quickly and had long reaching consequences, the pandemic here is one that brings isolation. Loneliness, the kind of being separated from family. And the kind where you are separated from everyone but family.

The central conciet is more fantastical than Station 11. But the humanity is still there.
