The best Firefly book yet? For me, yes. Shorter, plugged easily into timeline, and starts moving from the word go. My biggest complaints about the Firefly novels have been they either don’t nail the characters (or all of them) or they go almost “grim-dark” with the inner turmoil…and lack the comedic tone. Yes, the crew have mostly complex backstories that aren’t easy to deal with. But Carnival nails the tone and pacing of the show.
