2022 # 7 – Unprotected Texts: The Bible’s Surprising Contradictions about Sex and Desire

By: Jennifer Wright Knust

This book came out when I was in the middle of transitioning from one faith tradition to another. Someone suggested it as a book to read. I read the cover and the endorsements and decided not to read it. I saw it online at the end of last year and decided to give it a read.

The passages she points out are many of the ones that I have wrestled with over time. I think the questions are right. We just do not approach Scripture in the same manner. For all my deconstruction I am still creedal in belief and practice. We disagree about the dating of the Bible, the status of Scripture, and I think how God reveals himself to the church and the world. All of that to say I enjoyed the book but not its conclusions.
