By Ward Carroll
Lt. Rick “Punk” Reichert is an F-14 pilot doing a rotation training pilots getting ready to join the fleet. Among them is a female pilot who is being watched by a powerful senator and her interests in the Navy. Also in the class is the son of a Vietnam War fighter ace trying to live up to his father’s legacy. Like Punk’s War this is a novel populated real, fallible pilots and people. It is not a thrill a minute ride, but more of a character study of Punk. Towards the end of the book something happens that changes the nature of why they are training. An enjoyable read.
