“I don’t see the word retire in the Bible” – Billy Graham, quoted here by J.I. Packer, is the gist of this man of God’s final book. His general premise is that retirement from work doesn’t mean as Christians we retire from serving, loving, or learning about God. Which I think is generally true. But what he doesn’t address in a substantive way is how this would work or why it may be good to live a different lifestyle than the rat race you just retired from. And while he does acknowledge the aging process, he doesn’t really give any advice on how to adapt to a new season in life. So good general principle…that could have used some more practical elements.
