2021 #46 – The Seven Day Switch

By Kelly Harris

This was a Kindle First Selection (so free to me). A quick synopsis: Wendy Charles is a successful working mom of two who runs her own consulting business. Celeste Mason is a stay at home mom who seems” Pinterest perfect”. These two fueding new neighbors drink some magical sangria – and live a “Freaky Friday” existance for a week – where each learns lessons about themselves and each other.

I found this book amusing and interesting – parts of it sound like conversations I’ve heard between my wife and her friends. However, like most stories that involve conflicts due to misperception, if the our protagonists would have spent a little time trying to talk with each other there would have been no need for a magical sangria in the first place.

My main reason for the 3/5 rating is that we learn a “big secret” about one of the ladies husbands towards the end of the book. While not a huge surprise, it annoyed me that the wife in question was given an easy out for her marriage. I wanted to see her have to make a hard decision that gave her the power to choose and instead she was given a pretty straight forward way forward.
