2021 #45 – Punk’s War

By Ward Carroll

The first in a trilogy about “Punk” an F-14 Naval Aviator, this follows the young lieutenant as he flies missions in the Persian Gulf. The book has a real world feel and some of the stories seem like they are probably based on anecdotes that Commander Carroll either experienced or heard. It reminded me of Flight of the Intruder – an intelligent, brooding protagonist has to wrestle with his career choices amidst flight ops. I enjoyed it – but the book has some freshman awkwardness in its writing.

I read this on my kindle – hopefully the other two books in the trilogy are rereleased, too.

Two notes:

1. I came across Commander Carroll on his YouTube channel, which I thoroughly enjoy. If you are interested in air warfare, pilots, etc. check out: https://www.youtube.com/c/WardCarroll

2. I am just returning from vacation, where the long drive allowed me to finish three books on Kindle (that I had previously started), and two short books on baseball. That will lead to a flurry
