By John Newton
This is a collection of twelve letters by John Newton about his life, conversion, and his opinions on the spiritual life. Newton was a slave-trader who turned into a minister who was famous in his day. He was a powerhouse in the early evangelical movement, he helped William Wilberforce and others in their conversion. His original “authentic narrative” was widely read, especially in evangelical and abolition circles.
John Newton was also a hymn writer and most people today who have heard his name, its in relation to his most famous song – Amazing Grace. This was a fast read and followed the generally predictable pattern of a sinner with a rough upbringing, God’s grace and the conversion, and then the calling and work towards ministry.
