2021 #37 Second to Home

By Ryne Sandberg with Barry Rozner

A pretty typical post play book from a ballplayer. He discusses why he retired the first time (the game was no longer fun to play. And later on admits that one of the reasons is that the decision making of the Cubs front office in the early 90s was nonsensical), some of his struggles, his teammates and opponents, and his favorite memories.

This was written in his brief first retirement (1994-1995). He came back to play in 1996-1997. He skips over all of the rumors regarding his ex-wife (she filed for divorce shortly after his first retirement). Its a decent narrative of his playing days.

On a personal note – as an aspiring little league second basement in Illinois – the quiet, Hall of Fame, second basemen was my hero.
