2021 #34 – X*: A Highly Specific, Defiantly Incomplete History of the Early 21st Century (* Ten)

By Chuck Klosterman

X (10) is the tenth book by Chuck Klosterman, and is another collection of his essays. Subjects include Breaking Bad, Lou Reed, zombies, KISS, Jimmy Page, Stephen Malkmus, steroids, Mountain Dew, Chinese Democracy, The Beatles, Jonathan Franzen, Taylor Swift, Tim Tebow, Kobe Bryant, Usain Bolt, Eddie Van Halen, Charlie Brown, the Cleveland Browns, and more. Many of the essays include new introductions with some extra materiel – often a reflection on either the subject or the interview.

Klosterman is like your older, college-educated, stoner cousin. Always well read and interesting, although some of his thoughts are, well weird. The essays are almost always interesting – if you like Rock Music, pop culture, and sports. I read many of these when they first appeared and rereading them is always fun. Three Man Weave, about a small, Indian, technical college who manage to hang on and win a basketball game, despite only finishing the game with three active players.
