The final book in the Alphabet Squadron trilogy…This book is grim for 90% of its reading. Things get worse and worse for our heroes. Betrayal and double crosses rule the day/ Then almost every supporting character dies at Jakku. I won’t spoil who lives and dies in the remainder of the squadron. For a book that explores mental health and grief – the realities of war. For a book that asks questions about Luke’s forgiveness of his father. In the end, more characters had miraculous escapes than I imagined. That left me with conflicted feelings, as I thought it would have made more sense for them to stay dead and those who didn’t plot armor to live to deal with the costs of the battle.
Maybe I’m too cynical.
