2021 #29 – Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark

By Claudia Gray

This is the last of the first wave of The High Republic books that I’ve now read. Into the Dark is the beginning of the YA series (Light of the Jedi started the adult and The Great Jedi Rescue the middle reader series). It took me a while to read for two reasons…. 1. I had a class that required me to read 3 books 2. I had a hard time getting through the place setting of the High Republic – for the third time. {Digression – I am also reading the High Republic comics. They require you to have read the first wave of books to understand what is going on. Friends who started with the comic books have complained that they have no idea who or what is going on. So, I do understand the need for setup.} Having said that it got better as it progressed. Once we were past the “The Great Disaster” and the loss and place setting that comes with it, the book got better. Its protagonist Reath Silas is “a studious young Jedi who loved to learn about ancient history”. So someone I can relate to.

It got better as it progressed and Claudia Grey is a good Star Wars writer. I think I may be docking it a half point or so for the repetition that I had to endure.
