2021 #24 Teammate

By David Ross and Don Yaeger

David Ross was the backup catcher for the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs. At the beginning of the season, he also announced it would be his last. This is his story – chapters generally begin with a memory from game 7 of the World Series, then a snippet from his journal for the season, and then a story (or stories) from his life or about his teammates. Some chapters repeat the process. It all culminates with his whirlwind post-series victory lap on TV. He also has a chapter describing the attributes of a good teammate. This was finished in early 2017, not long after the World Series ended.

I like David Ross – now the manager of the Cubs. Nice guy, great story. The book feels like it needed another editing pass or more input from the ghost writer. Maybe it was the quick turn around from the season to the publication of the book.
