By Patrick Rothfuss
I have a hard time starting new fantasy series. There are two reasons for this, the first is the “Eragon” problem – interesting first book, followed by a poor follow up. The other is the “A Song of Ice and Fire” Problem – where you wonder if the next book will ever come out (much less the whole series). At heart, I am a giant geek – if I love a book I am going to read: the whole series, the short stories, etc..
So after years of avoiding the book, and hearing my friends (who keep recommending it to me) complain about the now decade wait for the third book, I broke down during the pandemic and bought the book on Kindle. Part of this was because of my friends, part of this was seeing Rothfuss host Jim Butcher on an online “book tour”, and then Amazon offered it to me for a ridiculously subsidized rate.
I say all of that to say that this was an excellent book and I really enjoyed it. It is a slow paced, character focused, story about Kvothe the Kingkiller (among other titles). I have the second book in my queue to read this year.
